Sohrabuddin case: Mathur appears before CBI

Sohrabuddin case: Mathur appears before CBI

Former additional director general of police OP Mathur appeared before the CBI on Thursday for questioning in connection with the 2005 Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case.

Mathur was head of the state CID (Crime) department which was heading the investigation into the case before the Supreme Court handed it over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Summons were issued to Mathur to appear before the CBI.

He was subsequently Ahmedabad police commissioner and retired from the post. He is presently in charge of the newly-set up Raksha University.

The Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has been accused of killing Sheikh near Ahmedabad on grounds that he was a Lashkar-e-Toiba operative in a staged shootout on November 26, 2005. His wife Kauser-Bi has also been missing since then.
